Children and Paediatrics

If the birthing process itself isn’t traumatic enough for the spine, the first few tries at walking sure is! Did you know that some deliveries are so traumatic that the child can actually fracture their collar bone (clavicle) during the birthing process?

As our children grow and become active in sports such as gymnastics, soccer, football, tennis, or when they begin to play a musical instrument, their growing spines are subjected to tremendous amounts of stress. Chiropractic care can help to keep our precious little one’s spine in line.

Spinal alignment is so important, especially when we grow. Many of the spinal problems that we see in adults can be traced back to a childhood fall, injury, or more commonly, poor posture resulting from carrying back packs or spending endless hours playing video or computer games. It is very important at this developmental stage of their lives for you to seriously consider regular chiropractic care for your child.

Important Points to Note:

We are all born with the same amount of nerve cells. The important role of these nerve cells is the connection that they make to each other. It is these connections that allow our nervous systems to develop correctly and efficiently.

Before the age of ten we have double the connections or synapses to these nerve cells than we do as adults. At age 10, our body turns on a ‘survival of the fittest’ mechanism, which destroys those connections that have not connected correctly. If a child before ten has a VSC it may not allow your child’s nervous system to develop as efficiently as possible. This may express itself as poor co-ordination, sleeping difficulties, poor feeding, irritable baby, failure to thrive, learning difficulties, ADHD, and the list goes on.

Chiropractic adjustments have been shown, when applied, to cause firing in the cerebral cortex of the child’s brain, and thus affecting the nerve patterns within a child. This affect alone is reason enough to get your child checked for a VSC.
